Chantal Bourgonje is an illustrator and writer of children's books, for all ages. Including board books, pop-up books, picture books and graphic novels. She grew up in National Park "De Hoge Veluwe" in Holland but now lives in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside in the UK. She studied fashion illustration in Holland and later did a degree in sequential illustration and narrative at Bath University, graduating with a 1:1 degree in 2011. Since graduating she has been awarded a Kirkus Star for books of remarkable merit, has been highly commended in the MacMillan Prize and AOI Awards and has illustrated over 50 books.
In her stories and illustrations Chantal likes to focus on humour, compassion and togetherness. She loves illustrating with traditional materials like pencil, dip pen and ink, watercolours and white chalk. Her work has been described as "classic illustration with endearing characters".
Next to writing and drawing, Chantal has a lifetime passion for animals, wildlife and the great outdoors, history, language, mud larking and etymology. She lives with her tv-scriptwriter husband and two whippets in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, giving her plenty of inspiration.
